Sew Clever

sew-clever
Modern society has almost eliminated the need for children to learn basic skills such as knitting, sewing and crochet. Most children (and adults) find it much easier to buy ready-made clothes and other fabric based items. Tom Newby School is proud to offer a new activity in 2016 that addresses this area of social neglect. After all…somebody needs to start training the next generation of Versace and Armani designers.
Sew Clever will teach the children basic knitting, sewing and crochet skills and combine these skills with basic pattern design.

Although this activity is school-based, participants may be subject to a minimal fee to cover costs of equipment or they may be required to purchase their own equipment (knitting needles, sewing needles, etc.)

Age Groups
Grade 4-5

Times, Venues, Practices and Matches
Sew Clever runs from Term 2 to the end of the school year and students are required to attend once per week. The designated times and afternoon can be viewed on the weekly schedule of Extra murals on the school website.

Clothing and Equipment
Casual and comfortable clothing is recommended. Although this activity is school-based, participants may be subject to a minimal fee to cover costs of equipment or they may be required to purchase their own equipment (knitting needles, sewing needles, etc.)
