One of the Tom Newby School Vision Statement pillars is that of social development. Community Service is therefore a significant component of life at our school. The Community Service activity is usually the responsibility of the school councillors but, periodically, the entire school commits itself to supporting worthy causes. Some of the community service projects that have been supported in recent years are: The Salvation Army, Project Feed the Children and various disadvantaged children’s homes and schools.
Awards and colours for this activity are only applied to students in Grade 7 – most notably, the councillors. The councillors join the ‘Rota-Kids’ Foundation which is a subsidiary of the Rotary International Club. However, all students are encouraged to spend time and effort to ease the plight of those who are less fortunate.
